The old adage says that money cannot buy happiness. Nevertheless, it may be able to buy your way out of a traffic jam if Elon Musk’s latest experiment goes well. The SpaceX and Tesla Motors billionaire entrepreneur plans to create a hyperloop tunnel that would allow him to bypass traffic and reach his destinations in Hawthorne, California easier. He came upon this idea more than two years ago after presenting a white paper advocating for hyperloop technology.
The Basis for the Elon Musk Hyperloop Tunnel
Musk decided to build a tunnel after growing frustrated with sitting in traffic. After one encounter with congested roadways this past December, Musk told a friend that he was going to create a tunnel that would save him the headache of having to drive in the city’s busy traffic.
The friend knew that Musk was serious after the billionaire purchased digging equipment and began applying for permits. The tunnel should span from Musk’s office to other locations throughout the Los Angeles metro area.
Musk’s proposal to build a hyperloop tunnel to bypass traffic should be taken seriously, especially after he tweeted out an excited proposal to start digging promptly. This tweet demonstrates that the billionaire’s plans to dig were more than mere empty promises born out of frustration and disgust. They are actual developments that could become reality within a matter of days or weeks.
Hawthorne city authorities must issue a series of permits to the billionaire, which could delay his schedule in digging the hyperloop. He cannot simply dig to his heart’s content across both private and public properties. He would need to gain the permission of property owners and also municipal entities.
The permit application process itself could take a year or longer to complete. Even so, his proposal brings to light new future possibilities for making travel easier. His hyperloop tunnels could soon become permanent fixtures in the infrastructure, helping commuters spend more times with their families rather than stuck in traffic.
Other New Travel Technology in 2017
It remains to be seen if Elon Musk’s hyperloop will actually come to fruition. While the world awaits news of his underground tunnels, it can look forward to taking advantage of the newest travel and car technology already on the market.
While currently there is no way to speed up the time that it takes people to travel on city roads and highways, technology can make people’s journeys safer. Car manufacturers have created software that allows vehicles to communicate with each other so that people avoid getting into wrecks.
Autonomous cars are also making their way into the market. Autonomous vehicles require less driver interaction by utilizing their own driver programs to navigate the roadways. People can literally sit back and allow their cars to take them from Point A to Point B without having to accelerate, brake, or steer in normal road conditions.
Once they reach Point B, drivers may want to find a parking space or know what the weather is like without putting a lot of effort into such endeavors. Car technology today can locate parking spaces, give instant updates on weather, and more at the touch of a button.
Summing it Up
Traffic jams may be a part of everyday life right now. In the future, they could become less commonplace if Elon Musk gets his way. He plans on tunneling under the city of Hawthorne, California to spare himself from the agony of congested roadways. His hyperloop could become a part of the modern technology already available to drivers today. Hyperloop tunnels could also become part of every city’s major infrastructure soon.
