The National Basketball Association’s Cleveland Cavaliers are excited to welcome Kyle Korver aboard. This player who joined the NBA in 2003 recently admitted that he may not be playing as much as he did at the peak of his career. He is excited, however, to be playing with LeBron James. Korver is also looking forward to be involved in some of the greatest contests. He joined the Cavs after his team, the Atlanta Hawks, traded him.
Why is Korver So Excited to Join Cleveland?
In order to get Korver, the Cleveland Cavaliers gave the Atlanta Hawks Mike Dunleavy who can play either guard or forward, guard Mo Williams, an undisclosed amount of cash, and a 2019 first-round draft pick.
Korver has already played 32 games before the 2016-2017 NBA season. In his first 22 games, he scored an average of 9.5 points per game. So far this season, Korver who is 36 years old has played an average of 27.9 minutes per game. Officials say that they hope to limit Korver’s playing to under 20 minutes using him to replace different players who need to rest.
Korver has been one of the best scorers in the league. During his four years at Atlanta, he succeeded in hitting the basket from beyond the three-point line in 311 games out of a total 332. During his career, he has tried 1,811 three-point shots succeeding in 828 of them. This placed him third on the Atlanta Hawks all-time three-point scoring chart. When he was playing with the Hawks, he attempted 371 free throws marking 329. This makes him the top player to wear a Hawk’s uniform and making the most free throw shots.
Kyle Korver was drafted by the New Jersey Nets in the 2003 NBA draft. He was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers on the same day for $125,000. During his first year in the league, he set the all-time record for the 76ers in three-point shots. He was traded to the Utah Jazz in 2007 where he often came off the bench in a similar position as he will play for the Cavaliers. Korver was traded to the Chicago Bulls in 2010 where he helped lead the team to the Eastern Conference finals a year later.
“Among the most prolific and dynamic three-point shooters in NBA history, a selfless, and team first competitor, Kyle brings all of the elements of Cavs DNA that we covet on and off the floor,”
Cleveland Cavaliers’s General Manager David Griffin said about him.
Off the court, Kyle Korver has been involved in several community programs. He has collected coats and socks for the homeless. He has his own foundation that still has an impact in every city where Korver has played. In Utah, his foundation is building wheelchair ramps for low-income citizens.
As of January 16, 2017, the Cleveland Cavaliers are leading the Eastern Conference. So far this year, they have won 29 games and lost 10. The team is two games ahead of their closest opponent, the Toronto Raptors. Other teams in this conference include the Boston Celtics, Atlanta Hawks, and Washington Wizards.
Conclusion
The Atlanta Hawks have traded Kyle Korver to the Cleveland Cavaliers. The team currently leads their league. Korver is likely to come off the bench to spell other players when they need a break. This player is a leader on and off the court. He is known for his great accuracy in free throws and three-point shots.
